June 13: Proverbs 14; 1Chronicles 7-10

Song for today: Teach Me Thy Way O Lord and Heart of Worship

Today’s country: Republic of Angola

The wise woman builds her house,
But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.
•••
He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord,
•••
Where no oxen are, the trough is clean;
But much increase comes by the strength of an ox.
•••
A faithful witness does not lie,
But a false witness will utter lies.
•••
Fools mock at sin,
•••
There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death.
•••
The simple believes every word,
But the prudent considers well his steps.
A wise man fears and departs from evil,
•••
mercy and truth belong to those who devise good.
•••
A true witness delivers souls,
•••
In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence,
And His children will have a place of refuge.
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
To turn one away from the snares of death.
•••
He who is slow to wrath has great understanding,
But he who is impulsive exalts folly.
•••
Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a reproach to any people.
from Proverbs 14

The sons of Issachar were…
The sons of Benjamin were…
The sons of Naphtali were…
The descendants of Manasseh…
The sons of Ephraim were…
The sons of Asher were…
from 1Chronicles 7

Benjamin begot…
They also dwelt alongside their relatives in Jerusalem, with their brethren. Ner begot Kish, Kish begot Saul, and Saul begot Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-Baal.
from 1Chronicles 8

So all Israel was recorded by genealogies, and indeed, they were inscribed in the book of the kings of Israel. But Judah was carried away captive to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
•••
in Jerusalem the children of Judah dwelt, and some of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim and Manasseh:
•••
Of the priests…
Of the Levites…
the gatekeepers were… they lodged all around the house of God because they had the responsibility, and they were in charge of opening it every morning.
•••
the singers, heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites

from 1Chronicles 9

the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell slain on Mount Gilboa. Then the Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. And the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons. The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was wounded by the archers. Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and abuse me.” But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and fell on it. And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died. So Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together
•••
So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord, because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance. But he did not inquire of the Lord; therefore He killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
from 1Chronicles 10
